MADGirl
“Straddled between her protective and stabilizing aunt, and her schizophrenic and wild mother, a teenage girl learns to cope with the parts of her that are mad.”
mADGIRL IS A coming-of-age story confronting the stigma of mental illness in girlhood through the lens of intergenerational illness and inheritance.
WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY EMILY ELIZABETH THOMAS.
Known for her singular blend of girlhood, rebellion, and emotional intensity, Thomas has built a devoted audience through projects that explore femininity, resilience, and identity with punk sensibility and cinematic flair. Her upcoming feature MADGIRL continues that trajectory — a visceral coming-of-age story rooted in psychological complexity, vulnerability, and intergenerational female perspective.
REUNITING WITH FILMMAKER EMILY ELIZABETH THOMAS Nearly a decade after first collaborating on Lola: Girl Got A Gun, I AM ATTAched to star as “Hannah” IN THE forthcoming indie feature, MADGIRL, currently in development.
“Working with Edie again feels surreal,” says Thomas, “There was always something magnetic and emotionally intelligent about her presence onscreen. To reunite all these years later, with both of us having grown artistically and personally, feels incredibly special.”
emily and i will write the title song for the film.
